High school baseball umpires needed

The Mid-Valley Baseball Umpires Association will hold its first meeting of 2009 on Feb. 8 at the Corvallis High cafeteria.

There is a need for new umpires and anyone interested should attend the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. The MVBUA provides training.

Youth basketball registration extended

The Corvallis Parks & Recreation Department extended the registration period for many teams in its youth basketball program.

Programs are offered for grades K-8. Practices are held one afternoon a week at the player’s school. Games are held on Saturdays. Registration is $25 for Corvallis residents, $32 for non-residents.

Registration is at the department’s headquarters in Avery Park.

Woods makes 3A all-state team

Santiam Christian junior setter/outside hitter Tayla Woods was named to the 3A volleyball all-state team.

SC sophomore Anna Wruck, a middle blocker, was a second-team selection, while SC junior Kiersten Hendrix, a setter/outside hitter, made honorable mention.
