The Beavers got a local addition this week when TJ Hufanga joined the team.

Hufanga, a walk-on linebacker, played at Santiam Christian High in Adair Village.

Hufanga was planning to attend Oregon State whether or not he played football, but he got the opportunity to walk on.

He was recruited by defensive line coach Joe Seumalo, who watched film of Hufanga and discussed him with the other coaches.

“I had to take it,” Hufanga said. “It was Division I football and it was an opportunity to be around the best coaches in Oregon, so I just wanted to go out there and give it a shot, give it my best and be part of the team.”

Hufanga lives in Albany and has been coming to OSU football games since he was little.

“I grew up a Beaver fan,” he said. “I always came with my family, my parents, and watched the Beaver games. So it was an easy choice.”

Hufanga played offense and defense at SC. He played both outside and middle linebacker and offensive guard.

“It’s a blessing to be out here with this team,” he said. “All these guys, it’s a bunch of great guys out here and a great coaching staff and I love it. I’m happy to be here.”
