People on the move

Scott Safford, Ph.D., recently joined Samaritan's Division of Integrative Medicine. Safford received a bachelor's degree from Linfield College and a master's degree and doctorate in clinical psychology at Temple University in Philadelphia. He completed post-doctoral training at the Psychology Clinic at Idaho State University, where he also taught graduate and undergraduate courses in psychology. More recently, Dr. Safford has taught undergraduate psychology courses including abnormal psychology and theories of psychotherapy at Oregon State University. He has more than 10 publications on issues relating to anxiety and depression.

David Delmore recently joined Symonds, Evans & Company, P.C., Certified Public Accountants, as a member of the firm's tax staff.

Lory Humbert of Keizer was appointed last month to lead Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility in Albany and the Corvallis House transition facility, which both serve female youth offenders. Humbert joins the Oregon Youth Authority from the Oregon Department of Corrections, where she served as assistant superintendent of program services at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville since it opened in 2001. She previously was security manager of Columbia River Correctional Institution and South Fork Forest Camp. She also spent two years on assignment to help design new correctional facilities.

Kaire Downin, a real estate sales professional, recently joined Keller Williams Mid-Willamette Market Center.

The Corvallis Waldorf School has been selected for the 2008 Best of Corvallis Award in the Private and Parochial Schools category by the U.S. Local Business Association.

The USLBA "Best of Local Business" award program identifies companies and organizations it believes have achieved exceptional success in their local communities and have enhanced the positive image of small business through service to their customers and communities.

The Downtown Corvallis Association recently announced the People's Choice award winners of the Sept. 6 Rhapsody in the Vineyard. Pioneer Hopyard Vineyard won Best of Show in the White Wine category. The Best of Show in the Red Wine category went to Cardwell Hill Cellars. The Best of Show in the Food category went to Many Hands Trading.

Wine walk attendees cast ballots to select award winners. Winners each received a framed certificate and free registration for the March 14, 2009, Rhapsody in the Vineyard.

Holiday Ranch in Blodgett is the co-owner of Ankonian Hal 7070, the junior champion bull at the 2008 Oregon State Fair Roll of Victory Angus Show, held Aug. 24 in Salem.

Comings and goings

News and notes

T. Gerding Construction Co., a Corvallis-based building contractor, was recently awarded an $8.5 million construction contract for the Linn-Benton Community College Science Building in Albany. The project will add 34,000 square feet of laboratory, classroom and administrative areas to enhance the college facilities, and will be certified LEED Silver. Chris Langton is the T. Gerding project manager, and the superintendent is Gwen Scholl. Construction began in early September with completion expected by October 2009.
