Goings-on in the local business community

Roger McDonald has been hired as business manager for the Corvallis Odd Fellows Hall on West Second Street downtown. McDonald will be responsible for the Lodge's business rentals (New Morning Bakery, Sedlak's Shoes, Olufson's Jewelers and Grass Roots Books & Music) as well as its two event rental halls.

Louise-Annette Burgess, a Mary Kay independent business owner in Corvallis, recently attended the company's annual seminar in Dallas, Texas. At the seminar, Burgess was recognized on the National Queen's Court of Sales, and was named the Number Eight Sales Director in Personal Sales in her national area.

Oregon State University student Natalie Hooper has been hired as a summer intern at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network's Corvallis office.

Tammy Jaquith has been appointed to the position of Corvallis Tourism Group Sales Director where she will solicit prospects for meetings, conferences, conventions, group tours and special events relating to state and regional associations, corporate meetings, sporting events, hobby, religious, military and fraternal organizations. Tammy has a degree in business from Cal State University and a business law degree from Peirce College Philadelphia.

Melinda Claire Stewart has been named Corvallis Tourism Public Relations Manager. She will work to increase social, political and market capital through third party endorsements for Corvallis and for Corvallis Tourism. Melinda is a recent graduate of Oregon State University with a focus in cultural resources and recreation.

Cheryl O'Hara has been named the new Kings Valley Farmer's Market market director.

Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services presented awards at the 2008 NeighborWorks Week Partnership Recognition Picnic on June 20.

Janey Gaventa received a Homeownership Achievement Award for her commitment to achieve homeownership.

Gloria Pozniak, owner of Pozniak Pottery, received a MicroBusiness Achievement Award for her hard work and persistence in building a stronger business.

An Outstanding Housing Advocate Award recognized Buzz Berra, Trish Daniels, Robin de La Mora, Ed Fortmiller, Judy Gibson, Jennifer Jordan, Sherry Littlefield, David McCarthy, Dan Schofield and Patricia Weber for their service on the City of Corvallis Housing and Community Development Commission and for their commitment to housing and economic opportunity for all citizens.

Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services is a private nonprofit community development organization working on quality affordable housing, homeownership, economic opportunity and community partnerships.

Spencer Whitlow has joined Peterson Machinery Co., an agriculture equipment sales company with locations in the Willamette Valley and southern Oregon, as an agriculture equipment sales representative. Whitlow will be responsible for the Albany, Corvallis, Eugene and Springfield sales areas. Prior to joining Peterson Machinery Co., Whitlow was the agriculture machine maintenance manager and purchasing agent for an international hay and grain supply company.
