The Assistance League of Corvallis, a nonprofit, all-volunteer philanthropic organization, recently installed its board of directors for 2008-09. The new officers are Carol Reeves, president; Michelle Babbel, president-elect; Helen Tedder, recording secretary; Anne Hart, corresponding secretary; Karne Anderson, treasurer; Gwen Whitesell, assistant treasurer; Judy Kuenzli, past president; Ginny Adams and Robin Kassman, membership; Helen Whitaker, finance; Maja Jovanovic, education; Valerie Abbott, vice president of resource development; Kris Owen, vice president of philanthropic programs; Jacque Schreck, strategic planning; Marilyn Marker, ways and means; Darlene Rousey, Kelly Beal and Pat Noakes, operation school bell; Henny Chambers and Bobbie Carr, dental care; Linda Hoffman and Carol Kamke, SAT review; Therese Waterhaus, Hug-A-Bear; and Ann Davis, CARES.

The Downtown Corvallis Association membership elected six new board members at its June 18 meeting. Newly elected board members include: Robin Brown, Brown House; Amy Childers, Starbucks; Cloud Davidson, Cloud 9/Downward Dog; Heather Rogers, Umpqua Bank; Cary Stephens, Barnheisel, Willis, Barlow, & Stephens; and Scott Stoller, Benton County Fair. Continuing on the board are Les Boudreaux, Deanna Carr, John Coleman, Jerry Groesz and Cathy Holdorf.

Benton County Schools Credit Union held its 55th annual meeting June 14. Elected to the credit committee were Randy Trivett from the Corvallis School District and William Goslow, retired educator. Elected to the Supervisory Committee were Ruth Post from the City of Philomath and Kevin DeCoster from the Greater Albany Public School District. Elected to the board of directors were Joe Dealy from the Philomath School District and Margi Dusek from Linn-Benton Community College.

Zonta Club of Corvallis recently appointed new officers: Whitney Olsen, president; Dianna Howell, first vice president; Carolyn Gardner, treasurer; Sue Martines, recording secretary for the board; and Lorraine Sorensen, recording secretary for the monthly noon meetings. As committee heads, Debbie Griesmeyer and Janie Peery, co-chairs, attendance and fellowship; Dani Bolda and Julie Hamby, co-chairs, membership; Sandra Thiesen, publicity chair; Kathleen Petrucela and Rebecca Yu, co-chairs, community service and scholarship; Penny York and Joanna Engle, co-chairs, status of women; Linda Ahlvin and Angie Stambuck-Simon, co-chairs, program/U.N./ international committee; and Carol Schaafsma and Karen Randolph, co-chairs, ad-hoc advocacy committee. Other positions are: Selma Starns, parliamentarian; Katherine Cleland, ex-officio past president; and Mary Vedaa, new member of the Zonta Service Foundation.

Sandra Thiesen was recently elected to the board of the Alzheimer's Network of Oregon, a nonprofit group of experienced volunteers in Benton, Linn, Marion and Polk counties who offer support and resources to persons with memory loss, their families and caregivers.
People on the move
John Dezzani was recently selected for promotion to Commander in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of U.S. Navy Reserves. John continues to practice law in Corvallis at Jeanne Smith & Associates in the areas of litigation, business and estate planning.

News and notes
The postgraduate pharmacy residency program at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center recently received recertification from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The one-year postgraduate program allows pharmacists to learn how to provide clinical pharmacy services in areas such as pharmacist-managed anticoagulation clinics, home and ambulatory infusion, internal medicine, diabetes education, or critical care and cardiology.
Training and development
Jane Fisher, Kim Turpin and Stephanie Corden with Coldwell Banker Valley Brokers' Corvallis branch recently received the Accredited Buyer Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council Inc. of the National Association of Realtors. To earn the designation, they were required to complete a course in buyer representation and an elective course focusing on a buyer representation specialty, along with documentation of professional experience.

Nancy Kneisel, owner of Second Glance, will be the keynote speaker at the National Association of Resale and Thrift Shops (NARTS) national conference June 26 through 30, in Indianapolis, Ind. Kneisel has been a member of NARTS for 18 years and has been active as an educator for the national organization.
