Training and development

Benton Hospice Service has been granted full accreditation by the Oregon Hospice Association. OHA surveys member hospices biennially to assure that standards for patient care, administrative practices, and documentation are met. Benton Hospice Service was first accredited by OHA when it became a member in 1986. The Benton service has provided end-of-life care to terminally ill patients and families since 1980.

Officers and directors

John Mayse, retired president and CEO of Consumers Power, and Neal Peterson, retired president of Devco Engineering, were recently elected to the board of directors of the Philomath Community Foundation. Other board members include Karla Robbins, president; Joe Malcolm, vice president; Cheryl Black, secretary; Steven Kearsley, treasurer; Donna Williams, Richard Maddox and Matt Bierek also serve. The foundation manages endowment funds, serves as an incubator for community service endeavors and awards grants and scholarships.

The 2008-2009 Community Outreach board officers were recently announced: Glenna Hughes, president; Shirley Peterson, president-elect; Linda Morrison, secretary; and Nadine Davison, treasurer. Community Outreach is a nonprofit providing housing, medical clinics, family services, and addiction and mental health counseling to the uninsured and very low-income.

Roger Rennekamp, Ph.D., professor, department head, and state 4-H program leader in the College of Education at Oregon State University, has been elected to the National 4-H Council Board of Trustees. The National 4-H Council is the national, nonprofit partner of the 4-H Youth Development Program and its parent, the Cooperative Extension System of the United States Department of Agriculture. 4-H serves more than 6.5 million young people across America.

Comings and goings

LeRoy Mary recently received his real estate license and joined Prudential Real Estate Professionals in Albany to be with his father, J.D. Mary, a broker for more than 27 years.

Betty Nielsen of Eugene has been hired as the new director for accounting and budget at Linn-Benton Community College, succeeding Jim Huckestein, who was recently promoted to vice president of finance and operations. Nielsen is a licensed CPA in Oregon and Washington. She previously worked at the University of Oregon as assistant director of quality assurance.

Kimberly Frost has joined the real estate sales team at Windermere/Willamette Valley, Albany. Kimberly has been selling and listing real estate for more than three years, and has an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree.

John Croy has joined Edward Jones as a financial advisor in the John Griesmeyer office on Northwest Kings Boulevard. John has eight years of experience as a mortgage broker.

Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center's Physical Rehabilitation Department has hired Shawn Johnson, CFY-SLP, as a speech-language pathologist. Johnson holds master's degrees in communication disorders and cognitive psychology. He specializes in the rehabilitation of cognitive deficits, aphasia, voice disorders, dysarthria and dysphagia and in the development of augmentative/alternative communication systems. He is certified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, which focuses on the rehabilitation of speech and voice in patients with Parkinson's disease and other neurogenic disorders.

News and Notes

CH2M HILL, a global engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, has completed construction of two design-build projects for the Oregon Department of Transportation. The Sutherlin to Roseburg project replaced eight bridges along a 14-mile stretch of Interstate 5 in southwestern Oregon. The project resurfaced 11 miles of asphalt pavement, improved concrete barriers and drainage, replaced fencing and installed a median cable barrier. The Clarks Branch to Tunnel Mill Race project replaced or repaired 11 bridges along a 78-mile stretch of I-5 in southwestern Oregon.

The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library Foundation has contracted with Meadowlark Publishing Services to edit and produce a history of the library written by Tom McClintock, to be published in July.
