News and notes

Mid-Valley Housing Plus has joined Community Outreach Inc. In recent years the board of MVH Plus has struggled to raise the money needed to provide services to some 45 mentally ill persons, including some who are just low-income elderly, housed at the Benton Plaza and a few apartments in other parts of town. COI provides emergency and transitional housing, medical services, child care and other supportive services to local residents in need.

COI will absorb MVH Plus into its services offerings. It will be run much as it has been - out of the basement office in Benton Plaza with Samantha Ortiz as case manager to its clients. Starting Jan. 1 the program became COI's "Permanent Supportive Housing" program.
