James Carrington, a professor of botany and plant pathology at Oregon State University, has received a prestigious MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health to provide long-term support for his research.
The Method to Extend Research in Time, or MERIT Award, will provide funding for five years with the possibility of an extension for another five years. Recipients must be nominated for this type of award, and only about 15 such honors are made each year across the nation. The award recognizes "demonstrated superior competence and outstanding productivity."
Carrington, who earlier this year was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, received his doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley and has been on the OSU faculty since 2001, where he directs the university's Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing.
People on the move
Tony Wilson is the new director of finance for Consumers Power in Philomath. He succeeds Paul Rumpca, who retired in June.
Wilson most recently worked at Talquin Cooperative in Tallahassee, Fla., where he was director of finance for electric, water and sewer services. He has a bachelor's degree in management from Georgia State University and a master's degree in business administration from Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga.
Consumers Power is an electric cooperative and provides electric service in Benton, Linn, Lane, Lincoln, Marion and Polk counties.

Andy Luck was recently hired as the new combined fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at the Corvallis Waldorf School. A native of Ashland, Va., and an Oregonian since 1993, he has a master's degree in education from Western Oregon University and eight years of teaching experience in public K-12 schools. His state-licensed endorsement is in the area of special education K-12.

Jessica Kneisel has joined her mother, Nancy Kneisel, in the consignment business as the manager and style director of Second Glance Annex at 214 S.W. Jefferson Ave., Corvallis. Jessica is a 1999 graduate of Crescent Valley High School and a 2003 graduate of Texas Christian University, where she studied fashion merchandising. Prior to her position at Second Glance Annex, Jessica worked as a manager for several Nordstrom stores across the country.
The Second Glance Annex has a grand opening event scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 20.

Bob McCune of Monroe has been appointed manager of Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City. McCune is a Vietnam War veteran who graduated from Corvallis High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry engineering from Oregon State University. He has worked in the Musgrove organization since 2006. He is a licensed funeral service practitioner, pre-need insurance agent and apprentice embalmer.
