Officers and directors
Officers for the 2008-09 year were elected at the May 12 meeting of Unit 11, American Legion Auxiliary at their meeting held at The Caring Place. Dorothy Brunson was elected president, with Fay Atkinson as vice president and Marilyn Bousquet as chaplain. Lupe Maginnis fills the treasure position, Helen Hansen is membership secretary and Publicity and programs, Jackie Poppleton is recording secretary, Denise Bullick is Sgt. at Arms, Ellen Jimmerson is historian, Gloria Chagnon is VA&R Chairman and Dorothy Brunson is Girls State Chair.

D. C. Jesse Burkhardt, a Hood River writer and a former Corvallis resident, has been honored for his latest book, "Travelogue From an Unruly Youth."
"Travelogue From an Unruly Youth," a travel-adventure published by Rolling Dreams Press in 2007, won a second place award in statewide competition from the Washington Press Association. Burkhardt's book won in the "Books/Non-fiction, Self-published" category.

OSU has awarded the title of "distinguished professor" to Tracy Daugherty, chairman of the English department, and Steven H. Strauss, a professor of genetics and molecular and cellular biology in the College of Forestry.
The title is the highest honor faculty can achieve at OSU.
Daugherty is known for his award-winning writing. Strauss is prominent in the field of biotechnology.
OSU Distinguished Professor titles have been awarded annually since 1988 to recognize outstanding, active faculty members who have achieved national and/or international stature as a result of their contributions to scholarship/creative activity, research, education, and service and whose work has been notably influential in their fields of specialization.

After 14 years with Hendrix Heating and Air Conditioning, Adam Strilka has become installation manager.
Also, Cliff McClure has recently been put in charge of new construction sales at Hendrix Heating and Air Conditioning.

Attorney Thomas B. Brookes, a 1989 University of Washington School of Law graduate, recently joined the law firm of Evashevski, Elliott, Cihak & Hediger, P.C. Brookes previously served as general counsel to Rogue Wave Software and Vice President of Timberhill Corporation.

Debbie Moffat has recently joined Anderson Group CPAs, LLC as a full-time payroll specialist. Debbie received her AAS in Accounting Technology from LBCC in 2007.

Sister Dorothy Jean Beyer, OSB, has been named the new director of Shalom Prayer Center, a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Mt. Angel. A native of Mt. Angel, Sr. Dorothy Jean Beyer has been a member of Queen of Angels Monastery for over 45 years and has held numerous leadership positions both within and outside of the monastic community. She holds a bachelor's degree from Mt. Angel College and master's degrees from the University of Oregon and Seattle University.

Crystal Becker and Mary Turney recently joined Henderer Design + Build as interior designers.

Donna Green has joined Northwest Financial Group LLC as a Health and Life Benefit Specialist there. Northwest is located at 578 N.W. Van Buren St., in downtown Corvallis.

Brian Weinhold and Rosalie Peck have joined RE/MAX Integrity real estate company as brokers at the Albany location. Weinhold attended both Linfield College and University of Oregon and Peck studied veterinary medicine before their move to real estate.

David Gilbert has joined Cornerstone Associates as Development Director. Cornerstone Associates is a Corvallis based non-profit that provides services to people with developmental disabilities. Prior to joining Cornerstone, he was president of Advanced Mortgage Services, a commercial real estate mortgage broker. He has been active in the community, serving as general chair of the Community Outreach Capital Campaign from 1997 to 2002 and as president of the Children's Farm Home Foundation from 1996 to 1997.
