Take a Bow

The League of Women Voters of Corvallis has won an Energy Challenge competition that was launched in March by the Energy Trust of Oregon. The Corvallis League was competing with other partner organizations in the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition to gather sign-ups for free home energy reviews. League members signed up more than 200 members, friends and neighbors over a three-month period. Runners-up for the competition include the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, First Alternative Co-op, City of Corvallis, and Corvallis School District 509J.

The competition is part of a yearlong campaign called the Corvallis Energy Challenge, which is designed to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in Corvallis.

Martin Aebi, Pharm.D., clinical coordinator for the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Pharmacy, has been named Preceptor of the Year by the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy. The award winner is chosen by the students, through nominations and program evaluations students fill out following their six-week rotations.

Cardwell Hill Cellars won one gold and three silver medals for the four wines it entered in the Northwest Wine Summit. The gold award was given to its 2005 pinot noir. The 2006 pinot noir, 2007 pinot gris and the 2007 rose were granted high ranking silver awards. The rose was tagged as one of the best from the 2007 season. Cardwell Hill Cellars is a family-owned winery and vineyards located west of Philomath.

Jennifer Fidler with Windermere/Willamette Valley, Albany, has been awarded the Accredited Buyer Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council of the National Association of Realtors.

People on the Move

Dr. Edward Toggart, who specializes in invasive and interventional cardiology, has recently joined the Samaritan Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Toggart earned a medical degree from the University of Maryland and later completed his fellowship in cardiology at the Penn State University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Annemarie Boyd, PA, recently joined the The Corvallis Clinic Urology Department. Boyd graduated from the Master of Physician Assistant program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science in Boston in May 2008. She received a bachelor's degree in health science there in 2006 and a bachelor's degree in pre-medicine from Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., in 2003. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Adriana Brune, M.D., recently joined Samaritan Dermatology in Corvallis. Dr. Brune earned a medical degree at the National University of Tucuman in Argentina, and completed residency training in dermatology at the University of Oklahoma. She completed a pediatric dermatology research fellowship at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She is fluent in Spanish.

Valerie Bevel has recently joined Coldwell Banker Valley Brokers' Lebanon branch as a licensed real estate broker.

Andrea Beem has joined Coldwell Banker Valley Brokers as a full-time broker working out of the Albany branch.

Connie Rush joined Coldwell Banker Valley Brokers' Lebanon branch as a licensed real estate broker.

Officers and Directors

Annette Mills has been elected president of the League of Women Voters of Corvallis. Other new officers include Kate Mathews as vice president and Sara Ingle as treasurer.

News & Notes

Corvallis artist J.M. Brodrick's painting "Egrets" is included in the art collection for the new Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. The painting was commissioned by the center this spring in a world-wide selection process through American Art Resources in Austin, Texas.

Holiday Ranch, Blodgett, owns three bulls listed in the 2008 Fall Sire Evaluation Report published by the American Angus Association in Saint Joseph, Mo. Issued in both the spring and fall, the new report features the latest performance information available on 6,670 sires.

Fisher Implement Company, operating in the valley since 1925, is renaming its retail stores "Fisher Farm & Lawn." The change reflects the company's shift from selling purely agricultural implements to including smaller properties and grounds-care products and tools.
