People on the Move

Anne T. Hommes, CCC-SLP, a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, has joined Rosemary Ayres, CCC-SLP, in her private practice in Philomath. Hommes has experience in all aspects of speech-language pathology, including evaluations, articulation therapy, language development, vocal quality, stuttering therapy, oral motor strengthening, aphasia therapy and electronic language boards for people who cannot speak.

Tina Wolford has joined Central Willamette Community Credit Union as a real estate loan officer. Wolford has expertise in all varieties of mortgage lending and has been active as a loan officer for 10 years.

Tiffany Chona has joined Edward Jones as an invesment representative in Corvallis. Chona will work out of the office of John Griesmeyer for the next several months before opening her own office.

Mimi Shawe and Mary Jo Chapman of Corvallis have been appointed by the state to serve as certified ombudsmen, advocating for the residents of long-term care facilities. They will be helping to ensure the residents receive the best possible care. Shawe, a retired teacher, will serve as ombudsman for the residents of Samaritan Heart of the Valley and three adult foster homes in Corvallis. Chapman, an accounting clerk with Heck & Barry LLP, will serve as ombudsman for the residents of Corvallis Manor and Regency Park Place in Corvallis and two adult foster homes in Philomath.

Corvallis attorney Steven A. Heinrich has been elected chairman of the Elder Law Section of the Oregon State Bar for 2007. Heinrich currently chairs the section's Continuing Legal Education Subcommittee and is a member of the Agency and Professional Relations Subcommittee. Heinrich's practice focuses on family law, including divorce and custody; and on elder law, including issues such as wills, trusts, estates, probates, guardianships, conservatorships and Medicaid.

Danielle R. Uerlings has earned a license to practice as a certified public accountant in Oregon. She is employed at Spectrum CPA Group LLP in Corvallis, where she focuses on business and individual taxation, retirement plan administration and financial reporting.

After seven years in downtown Corvallis, Fusion Marketing & Design has moved to Albany. The full-service advertising agency, owned by Shannon Bohard, now occupies the upper floor of the Parrish Building on First Avenue West. The Downtown Corvallis Association is soliciting nominations for its annual DCA Design Awards. The awards honor DCA members who have made outstanding contributions to downtown spaces that are accessible to the public. Categories include exterior and interior renovation, downtown beautification, new construction, exterior signage, historic renovation, and public art and exterior furnishings. Area farmers can dispose of empty plastic pesticide containers this week at drop sites sponsored by the Oregon Agricultural Chemicals and Fertilizers Association. Containers should be rinsed multiple times and be totally free of residue and dirt inside and out. Make sure insides are dry and caps, plastic label sleeves and information booklets are removed. Plugs should be removed from 30- and 50-gallon drums, which should be cut into eighths. Containers can be dropped off today at Wilbur Ellis, 409 E. Hazel in Jefferson; Wednesday at Surecrop Farm Services, 28410 Milliron Road in Junction City; and Thursday at Western Farm Service, 32092 Old Highway 34 in Tangent. Dewald Northwest Co. of Albany was issued a $2,624 penalty from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality on Sept. 19 for failing to determine if residues (coal tar epoxy and absorbent material mixed waste) generated at a container manufacturing plant at 33710 Oakville Road were hazardous.

A group of federal agencies led by the Small Business Administration has launched a new Web site, http://Business.gov, to provide business owners with a one-stop information source. The site searches federal agency databases for information on taxes, immigration laws, workplace safety, environmental requirements and other regulations that can present challenges for small and midsized businesses.

Reinvestment

U.S. Bancorp Foundation has awarded Old Mill Center for Children and Families a $4,000 grant to provide a mental health counseling program for youths ages 8-15. The program includes the Kid Connection for children of incarcerated parents, the Explorer Group for high-risk boys, the Adventure Group for high-risk boys on medication, and the Girls Circle Group for high-risk teen girls.
