Dianne Schudel of Corvallis was recently named a national sales achiever by the Longaberger Company. To achieve this recognition, Schudel, an Independent Longaberger Home Consultant since 2004, had to sell more than $20,000 worth of Longaberger products in a year.

Yvonne Will, a former Corvallis resident and alumna of Oregon State University, was recently honored as one of Pfizer Incorporated's top scientists.

Will, a senior Principal Scientist in Exploratory Medicinal Sciences at Pfizer's Global Research Development labs in Groton, Conn., will be recognized on BigThink.com. The Web site is part of Think Science Now, a science awareness program designed to promote exceptional researchers who have devoted their lives to unraveling the mysteries of biology, chemistry and human disease.

Will, an expert on mitochondrial biology, works to help ensure the creation of medicines that deliver tangible benefit to patients safely. On Big Think, she will discuss her "obsession and passion to make safer drugs everyday" and the challenges she and her fellow scientists face in the development of drugs.

Cardwell Hill Cellars was recently invited to present its 2005 Estate Bottled Pinot Noir as one of the featured wines at the recent International Pinot Noir Celebration held at Linfield College in McMinnville. Cardwell Hill Cellars was selected as one of the 31 Oregon wineries producing outstanding premium Pinot Noir wines. Also participating were 15 wineries selected from France, 12 from California, three from Australia, two from New Zealand and one from Canada and Austria.

Cardwell Hill Cellars is a family-owned winery with vineyards which practices sustainable agricultural practices and is certified Salmon Safe and LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology ). It is located northwest of Philomath on Cardwell Hill Drive.

Steven Puntenney of Corvallis has been elected as an alternate delegate to the 125th Annual American Angus Association Convention of Delegates, in Louisville, Ken.

Puntenney, a member of the American Angus Association, is one of 372 Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members to serve as an alternate state representative to the association's annual meeting. Representing 45 states, the District of Columbia and Canada, the state delegates will participate in the business meeting and elect new officers and five directors to the association board.

The American Angus Association has more than 34,000 active members and is the largest beef breed organization in the world.

People on the Move

The local Start Making A Reader Today (SMART) program recently hired three new staff members. Lee Tinker is the new SMART program area manager, overseeing it in four counties as well as promoting program sustainability. Tinker previously was the SMART development coordinator and has previous nonprofit and management experience.

Tammy McCammon is the program manager assistant who will foster relationships with area schools and volunteers. McCammon previously was the AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer in the Service Learning and Career Development Department at Western Oregon University.

Christi Clark is the new area assistant supporting Tinker and McCammon. Clark was the SMART volunteer coordinator at Central Elementary in Albany for three years.

In Benton County, the SMART program is at Mountain View and Lincoln Elementary schools. In the SMART program, dedicated volunteers including business leaders, retirees and college students read one-on-one to children. Each child in the SMART program is read to and gets two books each month to take home and keep.

Mechanical designers Jorge Banuelos, EIT, and Jim Cook, PE; civil/structural designers Steve Heryford, PE, and William Barlow, PE; and drafter Marla Young recently joined Endex Engineering.

Melissa Vigil has joined Community Services Consortium of Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties as human resources director. Vigil has an MBA from George Fox University. She previously worked for the city of Albany as human resources director. CSC develops, manages and provides a wide range of services to low- and moderate-income individuals and families.

Mike Jenson recently joined Prudential Real Estate Professionals at the Corvallis branch. He is a graduate of Linfield College and holds a Bachelor of Science in biology.
