Gallery Calapooia artists will show their processes in free demonstrations on Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., during the holiday season at the gallery, 222 First Ave. W., Albany.
Here is the schedule:
Saturday, Nov. 18: Printmaking demonstration: Printmaker Cheryl French will demonstrate how she designs, carves, and prints her linoleum block prints.
Saturday, Nov. 25: Landscape painting demonstration: Landscape painter Dan Bourdet will demonstrate his solvent-free oil painting technique. He will show how to use walnut oil to thin paints and clean brushes and thereby eliminate hazardous waste material.
Saturday, Dec. 2: Felt gnomes demonstration: Fabric artist Pat Spark will demonstrate how she creates felt versions of Scandinavian gnomes, known as Tomtar or Nisser, creatures that are full of mischief.
Saturday, Dec. 9: Vinyl portraits demonstration: Vinyl artist Bill Thompson will demonstrate how he uses the unconventional medium of thin sheet vinyl to create portraits by building color, layer upon layer. There will be two similar but separate one-hour demonstrations in which the four steps of preparation, cutting, weeding and transfer process will be explained, followed by the creation of a vinyl portrait of Bill's granddaughters.
Saturday, Dec. 16: Pottery demonstration: Ceramic artist Dennis Johanson will demonstrate how he throws his pots on a wheel and develops his glazes.
