Calligrapher Nancy Anderson and metal smith Mary Lou Boydston, both of Albany, will be the featured artists during November at Gallery Calapooia, 222 First Ave. W., Albany.
An artists' reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, will feature the artwork of Anderson and Boydston, as well as 17 other mid-valley artists. Wine, beer and snacks will be served. Live music will be provided by Tom Hughes, mandolin, and Kim Collar, guitar and violin.
Boydston is a metal smith whose process of making jewelry begins with stones. She loves working with Oregon stones and gets inspiration from the stone itself, using them to help her decide which metal is best suited for color and texture.
Anderson's artwork continues to evolve with an increasing emphasis on cut paper creations in addition to her calligraphy. In her work, lettering often becomes its own layer as she builds images and words.
The reception is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 541-971-5701 or see gallerycalapooia.com.
