Wassail Bowl calls all carolers — The third annual Wassail Bowl caroling contest will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 4. Participating groups will be placed at various locations around downtown Corvallis and will sing for one hour. Participants can recruit groups or four or more carolers, with a maximum of 12, to form a team, designate a team captain, fill out an application form and send in a $20 registration fee to: Melissa Metz, Mother Advisor IORG, P.O. “Ten Grands Young Artist” accepting auditions — Submission deadline is Jan. 31. Young Oregon musicians between the ages of 6 and 18 are invited to vie for a scholarship and a chance to perform during the third annual Ten Grands concert, set for May 21 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Nonprofessional acoustic instrumentalists, vocalists or ensembles of up to six people are eligible to submit an entry (consisting of an audition recording and entry form). Acceptable submissions are YouTube clips lasting no more than five minutes. Entry forms/information: www.king.org.

OSU mural contest seeks entries — Submission deadline is Dec. 31. Sustainable and renewable energy are the topic of a mural contest sponsored by the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University. When complete, the mural will be about 10 feet high by 30 feet wide and placed just inside the main door of the Kelley Engineering Center on campus. Interested parties should submit a portfolio of previous work and a scaled version of their proposed mural, along with a description and budget for materials. “The 9 Show: A Canine & Feline Exhibit” — Submissions due by 4 p.m. Jan. 27, 2010. The Giustina Gallery at Oregon State University’s LaSells Stewart Center seeks artists for an exhibit focusing on canine- and feline-themed art. The exhibit will run from April 1-28, 2010, with a reception set for April 7. Art executed in any permanent medium will be accepted. Holiday trees for downtown Corvallis — Submitted photos due by noon Dec. 1. The Downtown Corvallis Association Promotions/Marketing Committee seeks stores to participate in the first annual tree-decorating contest, themed “Pretty Present Trees in Downtown Corvallis.” The DCA will create a map featuring tree locations in time for Winter’s Eve Corvallis attendees to select their favorite. Write a letter to Santa  — Santa Claus, that jolly old elf, has made arrangements with Albany Parks & Recreation as a special “elf” to answer mail from Albany boys and girls. The Actors Cabaret seeks cast for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” — The Actors Cabaret of Eugene is holding auditions for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the theater, 996 Willamette St., Eugene. Auditioners must be 17 years of age or older and prepare a short, Broadway-style song. “Putnam” runs from March 19-April 24, with most rehearsals scheduled for Monday through Thursday. Albany Civic Theater seeks cast for “Morning’s at Seven” — Albany Civic Theater is holding auditions for Paul Osborn’s “Morning’s at Seven” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7-8 (with Dec. 9 callbacks) at the theater, 111 First Ave. S.W., Albany. “Seven” is a comedy about the intertwined relationships and longstanding sibling rivalries of the four aging Gibbs sisters. Corvallis Community Theater seeks cast for “I Hate Hamlet” — Corvallis Community Theater is holding open auditions for Paul Rudnick’s “I Hate Hamlet” at 7 p.m. Dec. 14-16 at the Majestic Theater, 115 S.W. Second St., Corvallis. Actors auditioning for the roles of Andrew Rally and John Barrymore should be prepared to recite the first 14 lines of Hamlet’s soliloquy, “To be or not to be.” (“Hamlet,” Act III, Scene 1).
