New York-based artist Luba Lukova is scheduled to lecture on her poster art, illustrations and essential themes of the human condition.
The event is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Oregon State University's Memorial Union in the Joyce Powell Leadership Room. The lecture will be followed by a reception and portfolio signing. This is the opening lecture of the Department of Art's Visiting Artist and Scholar 2009-10 Series.
A recent review in The Boston Globe described Lukova's posters and illustrations as having "punch, and they are laced with such feeling that they often merit a second look. Her work doesn't wrestle with the classic riddles of high art. It is, as graphic art should be, strong and pithy but its messages are not always simple."
"Social Justice and Other Works," an exhibit of original illustrations by Lukova, is on exhibit in Fairbanks Hall. The exhibit ends Nov. 4. Fairbanks Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
