This log includes incidents in which there may have been a public disturbance or a risk to the public. Information comes from the Corvallis Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff's Office. It does not include all calls for service. The status of incidents may change after further investigation. Locations are approximate. People arrested or suspected in crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

MONDAY, JAN. 7

Vehicle accident: 9 a.m., Highway 99W near Adair Village. A driver was stopped on Highway 99W while waiting for another vehicle to turn off the highway when he was struck from behind by a car driven by Shaunin Banks of Eugene. Banks lost control of the vehicle and skidded into a ditch. Adair firefighters transported Banks to Good Samaritan Hospital.

Theft: 9 a.m., 200 block Southwest Avery Avenue, Corvallis. An employee of a local auto shop reported that an engine part was missing from a company vehicle. He said someone had unbolted the catalytic converter from the manifold and cut the tail pipe off.

Civil issue: 10:54 a.m., 4100 block Northeast Fair Acres Street, Corvallis. A deputy spoke with a man who was complaining that his wife was annoying him. The deputy informed the man that it was not a criminal issue and said that he should, perhaps, see an attorney.

Vehicle accident: 12:47 p.m., Southwest Third Street and Avery Avenue. Corvallis police cited a man for failing to obey a traffic signal after he ran a red light and struck a car that was making a left-hand turn in the oncoming lane. There were no injuries.

Criminal mischief: 1:44 p.m., 100 block South Sixth Street, Monroe. A church employee reported that someone had been lighting firecrackers around the doorways and trash containers of a local church.

Runaway: 5 p.m., 500 block Northwest Jackson Avenue, Corvallis. A Benton County Juvenile Department employee reported that a juvenile on probation did not report to a youth shelter as ordered. The girl returned two hours later and was transported to the Linn-Benton Juvenile Detention Center.

Vehicle accident: 8:34 p.m., Alpine and Kyle roads, Monroe. A Monroe woman slid on a patch of ice on Alpine Road, sending the vehicle spinning toward a ditch. The car ended up on the driver's side. The Corvallis Fire Department removed the woman from the vehicle and took her to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

TUESDAY, JAN. 8

Suspicious conditions: 6:31 a.m., 27000 block Highway 99W, Corvallis. A homeowner reported that a man had been parked in his yard with the engine running since 10 p.m. on Monday. The caller said he was unable to wake the man up. A deputy responded and shook the man, who was from Salem, through his open window. The deputy said the man did not appear to be intoxicated but did not know where he was and refused to say what he was doing there. The homeowner said he did not want to press charges and was content to let the man sleep there until daylight.

Found bicycle: 10:13 a.m., Southwest Third Street and Monroe Avenue, Corvallis. A citizen brought a grey and white Motiv mountain bike into the police department and said it had been parked, unlocked, at the corner in front of a bank for nearly a week.

Missing person: 12:10 p.m., 20000 block Highway 20, Blodgett. A woman called and reported that her 53-year-old son has been missing for two days. She last heard from her son, Jimmie Johnson, on Jan. 6. He called from a pay phone in Albany and said he was going to hitchhike back home to Blodgett. Johnson is described as a 5-foot, 8-inch Caucasian and Native American, weighing 160 pounds. He has "Harley Davidson" tattooed on his shoulder and was last wearing blue jeans, a blue denim Levi's jacket and tennis shoes.

Theft: 6:03 p.m., 4600 block Southwest Hollyhock Circle, Corvallis. A woman came into the police station and reported the theft of her jewelry from her room at Stonybrook Assisted Living. She said she had read about the investigation of prior thefts at Stonybrook and checked her jewelry. She reportedly discovered that a ruby ring and locket were missing.

Theft: 7:09 p.m., 1300 block Northwest Ninth Street, Corvallis. A caller reported that her purse, containing a bank card, driver's license and two sets of keys, was stolen while she was shopping at Goodwill.

Warrant arrest: 7:29 p.m., 5000 block Southwest Technology Loop., Corvallis. Officers went to a residence to look for a man who had an outstanding warrant. They located the man, who said he inadvertently missed his court appearance. They took him into custody.

Recovered stolen vehicle: 9:54 p.m., 6200 block Southwest Plymouth Drive, Corvallis. A caller reported a vehicle in a ditch that she thought had been in an accident. A deputy responded and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen. No one was in the vehicle. The registered owner could not be contacted and the vehicle was identified only as a gray car with an Oregon license plate number of XU2310.
