The Oregon State University Socratic Club is sponsoring a debate, "Does the World Need Jesus?" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Leading the free debate, which will be held in the Austin Auditorium in LaSells Stewart Center at OSU, are Marcus Borg and Martin Emmrich.

Borg and Emmrich will be given 25 minutes each to present a side of the issue. Then they will query with each other, before the floor is opened for questions from the audience.

Borg is a member of the Jesus Seminar and has written more than 18 books. He recently was appointed Cannon Theologian of Trinity Cathedral in Portland. Emmrich is the pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Corvallis. He has written one book and several articles on biblical studies.
