Professor Cary Nelson, president of the American Association of University Professors, will speak at noon on Wednesday, May 25, at Oregon State University, and will invite discussion about the nationwide threat to higher education, the fight back by faculty, students, and staff, and the repercussions for Oregon and OSU.

In his talk, which takes place in Memorial Union Room 208, Nelson will address recent events affecting higher education in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Florida and Missouri, and describe the actions of faculty, students and staff to protect higher education. Oregonians will likely be dealing with similar issues in the near future, according to Nelson.

Nelson is a professor of English and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The event is sponsored by the Associated Students of Oregon State University, the American Association of University Professors, the Coalition of Graduate Employees, and Service Employees International Union. The public is invited to attend.
