In the mood for a big birthday bash?

The Corvallis riverfront will light up Tuesday with a celebration of the city's 150th birthday, and everyone is invited.

The party at Riverfront Commemorative Park begins at 5:30 p.m., and the crowd will be treated to music, guest speakers and enough birthday cake to feed 500 people.

"This is turning out to be one of the biggest community events Corvallis has ever seen," said event organizer Marti Staprans Barlow.

The community is invited to enjoy a variety of kids activities, free food, sodas and gelato, displays of local products and technology and live music. All refreshments and activities are free and will promote local businesses and products.

Corvallis-raised multi-platinum recording artist Meredith Brooks headlines the musical event. Brooks' performance will include a song she wrote about Corvallis. The Corvallis Community Band will open the music program.

Guest speakers include Oregon State University President Ed Ray, OSU baseball Coach Pat Casey and Mayor Charlie Tomlinson. Staprans Barlow said the stage will feature the Corvallis 150th logo in a 20-foot-high form, painted in OSU's colors to honor the achievements of the OSU baseball team, which this year won its second straight NCAA championship.

The party was timed to coincide with and showcase Corvallis as part of the Oregon "Business is Good Here" tour, which is bringing business people and government leaders from across the state to Corvallis on Tuesday.

The community birthday party and business tour is being coordinated by Staprans Barlow and supported by donations from a variety of local businesses and institutions.
