Corvallis could see record-breaking heat this weekend in a drastic departure from the cooler-than-normal temperatures that have been typical all spring and early summer.
The unofficial high temperature in Corvallis reached 91 on Friday, which did not threaten the 95 record high set on the date in 2008. Today's high is predicted to reach 97. The date's record high is a 100-degree reading from 1924.
However, the hot weather is expected to cool in our part of Oregon on Sunday, when the high is predicted to be 92 and continue dropping through Wednesday, when there's even a possibility of showers.
But for now, the National Weather Service has issued a heat warning from 11 a.m. today to 11 p.m. on Sunday for northwestern Oregon and southwest Washington.
The usual advice applies: Drink water even when you aren't thirsty; check on neighbors who may need assistance and make sure children and pets are not left alone in a closed vehicle even for a few minutes - even with the window cracked slightly.
