Corvallis

School board meeting - The Corvallis School Board will meet Monday night at 7 p.m. to discuss building projects and hiring new administrators. The work session is at 1555 S.W. 35th St. No decisions will be made.

The district has many building improvement projects that are being paid with money from an $86 million bond measure approved by voters last year, including a new middle school at the former Highland View location. That school will be ready for students by the start of the next school year.

The largest project, the $46 million new Corvallis High School, is on hold pending a decision from the state Land Use Board of Appeals. A petition for review has been submitted to the state and a hearing will conducted in December.

The district is also looking to fill administrator jobs for two elementary schools and Crescent Valley High School, an assistant superintendent, and eventually a new superintendent to succeed Jim Ford, who will leave his post at the end of the 2005 school year.

Grapefruit sale - The League of Women Voters of Corvallis is selling Texas ruby red grapefruit for its annual fundraiser. Twenty-pound boxes of grapefruit (17 to 20 pieces of fruit) sell for $15 and 10-pound boxes are $7.50. The fruit will be delivered in early December.

The league informs citizens about candidates and issues and hosts educational programs. For an order form, call 758-2922 and leave a name and address. For more information, see www.lwv.corvallis.or.us.
