A local superhero is in need of rescue.
An 8-foot tall "Futon Man" sign for the business of the same name was stolen early Saturday morning.
The sign features a caped strongman holding up a futon.
Bill Blok, who owns the business at 5260 N.W. Highway 99W, said he last saw the sign at about midnight Saturday as he was returning from Salem.
By 1 p.m. Saturday, it was gone.
Blok said he got the sign about three months ago. It was portable, and he had set it up near Reser Stadium for Oregon State University football games.
"I'm sure people have seen it a lot," he said.
Blok built the structure the sign was attached to.
"I had it screwed up there pretty good so no one could get it down," he said.
But the thief or thieves took it from the support.
Blok said the sign is valued at about $300.
"I don't know what someone would want to do with anything like that," he said. "It's not worth anything to anyone but me."
Anyone with information about the sign should call the Corvallis Police Department at 766-6924.- Gazette-Times
