A family disagreement at a campsite in the Coast Range near Alsea on Saturday led to the arrest of a Philomath man.
Benton County deputies were dispatched to McBee Park, on South Fork Road near Alsea, about 10:35 p.m. Saturday for a report of an intoxicated male threatening to shoot others at the campsite.
According to a statement made to the police by an eyewitness, the suspect, Bradley Cameron, 21, of Philomath, was drinking tequila and became upset when his father tried to cut him off from more drinks.
The father, Michael Cameron, told deputies that the disagreement with his son led to a scuffle in which he was punched, kicked and headbutted by his son. It took three other men at the campsite to get Bradley Cameron under control, Michael Cameron said.
Witnesses also told deputies that after the scuffle Bradley Cameron got into his car and threatened to open fire before driving off.
At about 11:45 p.m., Bradley Cameron was arrested by officers near the intersection of Highway 34 and the Alsea-Deadwood Highway.
Sheriff's reports said a search of Cameron's car revealed a loaded handgun on the floorboard behind the right front seat and a Chinese SKS rifle and Russian Mosin-Nagant rifle in the trunk. Later, according to the reports, deputies also confiscated another handgun, a Mossberg pump-action 12-gauge shotgun and a bag of assorted ammunition at the campsite.
Bradley Cameron was charged with fourth-degree domestic assault, menacing and driving under the influence of intoxicants. He is being held in the Benton County Jail under $77,500 bail.
According to the sheriff's report, the menacing charge was filed because of the multiple witnesses who indicated that Bradley Cameron had threatened to start shooting and because he had the means to carry out those threats. The domestic assault charge was a result of minor injuries sustained by the suspect's father.
