Membership in The Mid-Valley Lions Club has dwindled to just 11 members, and the local service club has had a hard time staffing its health screenings and fundraising candy sales, especially during working hours, said President Warren "Skip" Volkmann.

"We are desperately seeking seniors," said Volkmann. "We don't have enough retirees."

The Mid-Valley Lions will offer free health screenings from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Benton County Fair, checking hearing, vision and blood pressure and testing for diabetes and glaucoma. At the same time, the club will be actively recruiting new members, especially people who are able to volunteer during the workweek.

On the following weekend, the Lions Club health screening truck will visit Willamette Park during the Benton County Soccer Tournament. Screenings are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10 near the soccer fields.

Anyone interested in joining the Mid-Valley Lions Club can call Volkmann at 753-5555.
