As rainy weather continues, Corvallis residents might see minor flooding from clogged gutters, culverts and drainages, Benton County Emergency Services Coordinator Peggy Peirson said Tuesday.

She advises people to keep leaf piles at least 6 to 8 inches away from drainage areas where they could cause clogs.

Keeping such areas clear of leaves, she said, is "a major and preventable cause of localized flooding this time of year."

National Weather Service officials in Portland issued an urban flood advisory for Benton County as well as other western Oregon counties that have experienced a lot of rainfall. In the immediate area, the flood advisory also covers western Linn, eastern Polk and western Marion counties.

Weather Service personnel said the areas most likely affected are along streets with poor drainage. A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban and other areas is occurring or imminent.
