The other boiler will be transported Friday to OSU

Massive boilers were loaded from rail cars onto flatbed trucks Thursday morning for transport from the old railroad depot at Ninth and Washington to the west side of the Oregon State University campus.

Only boiler was hauled to the campus Thursday afternoon. The other one is scheduled to be transported Friday morning.

Short traffic delays and periodic intersection closures are expected on Western Boulevard and Washington Way.

The 55-ton boilers will be installed at OSU's new $39 million energy center at 35th Street and Jefferson Way.

The equipment arrived at a rail depot on Ninth Street on Wednesday.

Here's the planned route for Friday's move: From the depot on Ninth, the boiler will be transported east on Washington Avenue; south on Seventh Street; west on Western Boulevard; north on 11th Street; west on Washington Avenue; south on 15th Street Street; west on Washington Way; and finally north on 35th Street.

The backtracking and circuitous route is necessary because the boiler can't squeeze past a large tree on Washington Avenue, Durant said.

Telephone and power wires will need to be raised at some locations while the machinery passes by underneath.
