LBCC offers academies for high schoolers

High school students can do some hands-on career exploration at Linn-Benton Community College during the annual Summer Academies.

Four different academies will be offered to give high school age students the chance to learn about careers in health care, engineering, transportation and manufacturing.

The Pre-engineering Careers Academy is free and for high school students who are at least 16 years old. It takes place from June 23 through 27. For more information, contact Fred Haynes at 917-4589.

The Transportation Academy will be held from June 23 through 27. It is also free and for students who are at least 16 years old. For more information, contact Fred Haynes at 917-4589.

The Health Careers Summer Academy will be June 24, 25 and 26, and it is for students entering the ninth and 10h grades in the fall. The application fee for program participants is $10. Scholarships are available and the program is limited to 20 students. For more information, contact Rob Williams at 917-4516.

The Manufacturing Academy will be held June 23 through July 10 and is free. It is designed for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, but participants must be at least 15 years old. For more information or
