She says reality TV reinforces bad female stereotypes

Media critic Jennifer Pozner will present a lecture, "Project Brainwash: Why Reality TV Is Bad for Women (-. and Men, People of Color, the Economy, Love, Sex, and Sheer Damn Common Sense!)," on Monday at Oregon State University.

The free lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Austin Auditorium in the LaSells Stewart Center, 875 S.W. 26th St. It is sponsored by OSU's Women's Center.

With humor, analysis and clips from such shows as "The Bachelor," "America's Next Top Model," "American Idol," "Extreme Makeover" and "Flavor of Love," Pozner will argue that so-called "reality" TV reinforces regressive stereotypes about women and men, race and class, and sex, love and marriage in America.

Pozner founded Women in Media and News in 2001 to increase women's presence and power in the public debate through media analysis, education, advocacy and reform.

Pozner's work on women, media, politics and pop culture has been published in newspapers and other publications.

She has appeared on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and other TV programs.
