SALEM (AP) - About 6,000 more people have won a shot at coverage in Oregon's health insurance lottery.

The Department of Human Services will send them applications on Friday.

It's the seventh round of such mailings. A final one, to 3,000 people, is planned in October.

The Oregon Health Plan has been closed to new coverage since 2004. But there are now some openings.

The state decided the fairest way to fill them is by random selection. A total of 91,000 people asked to get in.

So far, the department said Tuesday, the lottery has resulted in 5,300 people getting coverage. That's about half of those who actually returned applications.

The coverage is for people not poor enough for Medicaid but too cash-strapped to buy insurance.
