Some of Corvallis' leading citizens will be "behind bars" Nov. 6 for a good cause - supporting the research and education programs funded by the March of Dimes that help mothers and babies, those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive.

The March of Dimes is the leading organization for pregnancy and baby health with a mission to improve the health of all babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death. In Oregon, one in 10 babies is born prematurely each year. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing its toll by providing comfort and information to families and by funding research to find the answers to premature birth.

"During the March of Dimes' 'Jail & Bail' event, Corvallis leaders are 'confined' at Hilton Garden Inn until they raise 'bail' to help babies," said Kimmy Gustafson, the event's chairperson. "It's a cause that's dear to families here and across the country."

Donations help to educate pregnant woman in Oregon about infant prematurity, and to fund research breakthroughs that benefit all babies.
