More repair to take place in November

Motorists on Walnut Boulevard near Timberhill Shopping Center will again have access to all four lanes starting early Friday morning.

The right east-bound lane of Walnut between Kings Boulevard and Northwest Rolling Green Drive has been closed since a retaining wall in the shopping center's parking lot failed in December 2005. Since the wall provided support for soil beneath the roadway, the lane was closed until the wall repair was complete.

Timberhill Shopping Center has hired its own contractors to do the work and is paying the cost to fix the wall and the public utilities.

Construction on this portion of Walnut is separate from a city project to remove and repave the stretch of street surface between Highland Drive and Rolling Green Drive. That work began in July. City engineers expect to complete that project in September.

Repair of the failed wall was finished in June. Originally, Timberhill owners were hoping to start fixing landslide damage right afterward. Now they plan to begin sometime in November.

When the wall failed, it damaged the sidewalk and a water line on the south side of Walnut Boulevard. Traffic signal cables were also damaged. During this second phase of repair, the right east-bound lane and bike lane will be closed again for three to four weeks.
