Eighteen music students from Corvallis and Crescent Valley high schools placed first, second or third recently at the District 11 solo ensemble competition sponsored by the Oregon Music Educators Association.

These students, as well as selected alternates named during the contest hosted by Linn-Benton Community College, will compete in the Oregon State Activities Association state solo contest May 2 at the University of Oregon.

These Corvallis teens were recognized at the OMEA solo ensemble contest:

Flute: Annika Gilray (CHS), first alternate; Brian Qian (CVHS), second alternate.

Oboe: Cara Pfund (CVHS), first place; Jenny Flannery (CHS), first alternate; Camille Walker (CVHS), second alternate.

Bassoon: Weiyi Li (CVHS), first place.

Clarinet: Julia Semprini (CVHS), first place; Stephanie Hao (CHS), second place.

Low clarinet: Jenna Miller (CHS), first place; Payden Waldo (CVHS), first alternate.

Trumpet: Stephen Marshall (CVHS), first place; Tony Wu (CVHS), second alternate.

French horn: Lisa Thompson (CVHS), first place.

Tuba: Gavin Milligan (CVHS), first place; Garrett Egan (CVHS), first alternate; Matthew Braun (CHS), second alternate.

Mallet percussion: Abby Gregory (CVHS), first place; Molly Gard (CVHS), second alternate.
