Spilled logs block Highway 20
PHILOMATH - A load of logs blocked Highway 20 west of Philomath near McCullough Road on Thursday morning.
A truck pulling a load of logs turned onto Highway 20 from McCullough Road, eastbound, at about 9 a.m. The connection between the truck and trailer apparently snapped and the trailer broke loose, sending it across the road where it hit a second truck with empty flatbeds that was heading westbound on Highway 20. The second truck was pushed off the road and the logs came off the back end of the log truck.
The log truck was driven by Lindell Cantrell of Springfield. The flatbed truck was driven by Steven Lawrence of Lebanon.
There were no injuries. Highway 20 was closed for about an hour until the logs were cleared. Both lanes were opened after several hours.
AV fire still under investigation
ADAIR VILLAGE - The fire that scorched the A.V. Pub & Grill is still under investigation, but doesn't appear suspicious, said Chuck Harris, chief of the Adair Rural Fire Protection District.
Jim Minard, city administrator, said it still isn't known yet whether the pub section of the building can be salvaged.
The pub is connected to the AV Market, which remains open.
A fire scorched the tavern Saturday at about 2 a.m.
Harris said the area where the fire started has been pinpointed, but a source hasn't been identified.
The pub fire was the first significant fire in the Adair Village since City Hall was gutted by a blaze in August 2003, Harris said.
