Oregon State University Extension Service specialists and researchers from OSU's Department of Crop and Soil Science will host the annual Hyslop Farm Field Day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the farm, six miles northeast of Corvallis on Granger Road, just off U.S. Highway 20.

Field day topics will focus on the production, management and use of local crops including cereals, grass and oil seeds. Topics are separated into four modules that will be given in both the morning and afternoon sessions. The public is invited, and people should plan to stay all day to hear the presentations in all four modules. Refreshments will be available at 8:30 a.m. The OSU Crops Club will serve a no-cost lunch at noon.

The cereal module will cover wheat and barley breeding, disease management, nitrogen fertility, weed management and wheat and barley products. The grass seed module will discuss nitrogen fertility, ryegrass stem rust resistance, harvest management, weed management and annual ryegrass cropping systems.

The oil seed module will showcase OSU's research on winter canola, spring oilseed crops, meadowfoam breeding and an Oregon Department of Agriculture Canola Advisory Committee update. In the entomology module, researchers will discuss progress on barley yellow dwarf virus, studies of native pollinators and honey bees and choke management in orchardgrass.
