Entries sought for young writer award

The Kip Smith Young Writer's award, an annual writing award for high school seniors in Benton County, is seeking submissions for its 19th contest.

In recognition of writing excellence, the award also offers a $300 prize. Corvallis writer Kip Smith embarked upon a career of writing to promote peace and justice when he died in a traffic accident in Alabama. The family of Kip Smith and Poetry Enterprises sponsors the contest.

The award honors his spirit and encourages entrants to submit writing of all types (poetry, prose, drama). As many samples of writing can be submitted to show the writer's scope and interests.

The deadline is May 9. Entries postmarked after that date will be returned. Entries should be mailed to: The Kip Smith Young Writer's Award, Poetry Enterprises, 712 N.W. 13th St., Corvallis, OR 97330. Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope for return of manuscripts and notification of winners.
