A psychosexual evaluation was requested Tuesday for a part-time community college instructor charged with the sexual abuse of four children.

Richard Montgomery, 71, of Corvallis, an economics instructor at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, was charged on Jan. 14 with 14 counts of sexual abuse and one count of sexual penetration.

The four children, who knew Montgomery, were all under the age of 14. One was younger than 6 years old, according to court documents.

On Tuesday, Montgomery's attorney, Jennifer Nash, asked Benton County Circuit Court Judge Locke Williams for time to complete a full psychosexual evaluation of the defendant. The evaluation generally focuses on a person's sexual development and history, as well as the person's risk of sexual offenses.

Williams granted the request and set the next hearing for July 9 at 9:30 a.m.

Montgomery has been out of jail since Jan. 14, when he was released on bail of $250,000 following his arraignment. He was ordered to have no contact with the four children or their family.
