MILLERBURG - Workers at the Weyerhaeuser Trucking Division received notice Thursday that the facility will close by late June or sooner.
Greg Miller, Weyerhaeuser spokesman, said that 75 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closure.
The layoffs include 66 truck drivers, four mechanics, three dispatchers, an office worker and a unit manager.
"Part of it is because of the economy and part of it is because trucking is not a core business for us," Miller said. "Our business is lumber and that's what we have to devote our resources to."
Workers were notified in a letter from the company.
The trucking division has a fleet of 42 trucks hauling mostly wood products to customers throughout Oregon and Washington.
Miller said he could not speculate on whether any of the employees would relocate within the company.
"I can only say we are aware of parties that are interested in remaining with us," he said.
He said those losing their jobs would be eligible for standard severance packages with the company and union employees would receive severance based on their negotiated contracts.
Weyerhaeuser Trucking has been at its Millersburg site since 2002, according to Miller.
Weyerhaeuser's announcement came on the heels of a decision earlier this month to put its regional offices in Albany up for sale.
The Federal Way, Wash., timber company has also notified the state Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development, which administers the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
