Plan would secure Internet access for students

Gazette-Times

The Corvallis School Board is scheduled Monday to give final approval to an agreement with the Corvallis Boys & Girls Club which will secure Internet access for students who use the club's computers for school work.

Under the terms of the agreement, the district will provide and maintain access on computers designated for student use at the club, while desktop support and virus protection will be ensured by the club. The agreement will automatically renew each July 1.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Central Office board room at 1555 S.W. 35th St.

The agenda also includes appointment of Julie Manning and Steven Martinson to three-year terms on the district budget committee, confirmation of the board's 2007-08 meeting schedule, and formal acceptance of donated equipment from district parents and from the Hewlett-Packard Gifts in Kind program.

The board will consider a resolution requesting support from the Oregon School Boards Association for legal costs incurred by a funding adequacy lawsuit joined by the district, along with other districts, against the state. The suit has reached the appellate stage with financial support from the Oregon School Funding Defense Foundation, but an estimated $450,000 for further attorney fees will be needed.

Information items on the agenda include reviews of new and revised board policies regarding topics such as: board member ethics and conflicts of interest, district occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens, occupational injury and illness reports, and driver screening procedures.
