Corvallis Police officers arrested two men early Tuesday after a brief vehicle chase and pursuit using police K-9 units.
Just after 6:30 Tuesday morning, Corvallis Police officers responded to a report that two men had stolen an older pickup truck from a gated storage area at 277 NE Conifer Blvd. The truck was located heading east on Conifer toward Highway 20.
During a brief pursuit, the driver of the stolen vehicle, Ralph Herring, 50, of Albany passed several cars stopped at the traffic light at Conifer and Highway 20, drove through a field and finally stopped off the road near a wooded area.
Officers and Corvallis police dog Xar quickly located Herring and set up a perimeter to search for the passenger. Benton County K-9 deputies searched for two hours with their dog, Bus, and found Shaun Carroll, 39, of Corvallis hiding in a briar patch.
Herring and Carroll were treated for minor injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital and then transferred to the Benton County Jail, where they faced a range of charges including burglary, eluding police, criminal mischief, possessing burglar's tools and multiple counts of unlawfully entering motor vehicles. Herring was also charged with reckless driving.
Police recovered stolen property from numerous cars, boats and recreational vehicles stored at the Conifer address.
