MARCH 6
INJURY ACCIDENT: 1:39 p.m., Northwest Ninth Street and Conifer Way. A blue 1998 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Cory N. Sherman, 23, of Corvallis was traveling west on Conifer, getting ready to turn on Ninth, when a silver 2004 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Jerrold W. McKibben, also of Corvallis, came into the intersection and struck his car. McKibben complained of pain in his knee and ankle; Sherman and his passengers - his wife, Christi, and their daughter, Fiona - were uninjured. McKibben was cited for running a stop sign.
MARCH 8
PLANT BANDIT: 8 a.m., 200 block Northwest 35th Street. Samaritan Village reported someone had come by in the night, dug up a blooming pear tree from the south parking lot and spirited it away. The tree was worth $40.
MARCH 11
CAR TIPPING: 2:45 a.m., Northwest 10th Street and Jackson Avenue. Citizen reported he'd seen four males flip a white 1986 Mazda onto its side, breaking the driver's-side window and damaging the sheet metal.
MARCH 12
COMPUTERS STOLEN: 8 a.m., 1000 block Northeast Circle Boulevard. Citizen reported a major theft from a storage area located at Hewlett-Packard Co. Seven Compaq laptop computers and numerous computer peripherals were taken.
RUNNING FROM THE COPS: 10:55 p.m., Southeast Goodnight Avenue and Collins Place. Two officers saw a man riding a bike with no light; when they patted him down for weapons, he started running. One of the officers was able to chase him down, but he continued to resist, kicking at them. Eventually the man, 23-year-old Perry Travis Paine of Corvallis, was arrested, and was charged with harassment, assaulting a public safety officer, interfering with a peace officer and drug possession.
MARCH 13
BEER STOLEN: 7:19 p.m., 2500 block Northwest Monroe Avenue. Citizen reported two males entered the Superette Market, grabbed three cases of beer and sprinted away.
DUII: 11:45 p.m., Highway 34 at Ireland Lane. A 22-year-old Sammamish, Wash., man was arrested; his blood alcohol tested at .10 percent.
MARCH 14
THEFT FROM CAR: 2 p.m., 100 block Northwest Ninth Street. Citizen came to police station to report his 1987 Volkswagen Jetta had been broken into and the Pioneer CD player, Jensen amplifier, speakers, subwoofer and compact discs had been taken.
SHOPLIFTING IN A BIG WAY: 5:35 p.m., 2300 block Northwest Kings Boulevard. A 39-year-old Corvallis man was arrested on theft charges after he was caught leaving WinCo Foods with a grocery cart crammed with beer and groceries - $176.87 worth. The store's loss prevention officer also said he had the man on video surveillance tape doing the same thing on two other occasions in the previous week.
INJURY ACCIDENT: 11:04 p.m., 300 block Northwest Fourth Street. Corvallis Police Officer Philip Howery was making a U-turn in the Hollywood Video parking lot when he struck a disabled-parking sign and a small cement pole with the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria police car. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
MARCH 15
DUII: 2:08 a.m., Northwest Buchanan Avenue and Fourth Street. A 24-year-old Corvallis man was arrested; his blood alcohol tested at .16 percent.
BURGLARY: 8:44 a.m., 1400 block Southwest 35th Street. Official at Westland Middle School reported someone broke into the school and stole a Compaq computer, two Ohaus portable digital scales and a Panasonic digital camera with a long macro lens.
