Albany Fire
Power lines down - Albany firefighters responded to a call of power lines down just before 3 p.m. Saturday in the 4100 block of Springhill Drive Northeast. Lt. Jamie Smith said a large branch fell onto a couple of lines causing a chain reaction resulting in the disconnection of several cable and phone lines. Benton County sheriff's deputies closed off the block and directed traffic. Pacific Power was working to reconnect power Saturday evening.
Albany Police
Theft from vehicle - The owner of a 2004 Chevy Blazer called police from the 2650 block of Collingwood Street Southeast at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday saying the vehicle had been entered unlawfully sometime between 9:30 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday. There was no damage to the Chevy. Taken were a Compaq laptop and a Magellan GPS unit. Total value of the loss was estimated at $750.
Broken window, laptop taken - The owner of a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup called police saying a window had been broken and an HP laptop and satellite card had been stolen. He thought the theft occurred between 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. The value of the loss was estimated at $900.
Girl busts pot party - A 9-year-old girl called police Friday evening at about 6:40 saying there was a party going on at her house and people were smoking pot. She told police she saw bags of something green and leafy that looked like pictures she had seen of marijuana. An officer went to the house, in the 600 block of 16th Avenue Southeast, and talked with the girl's parents. Initially they denied having any pot, but they eventually admitted to the officer they had some and showed it to him. Several pipes and a small amount of marijuana were seized from the residence. Christopher John Nelson, 32, said the marijuana and accessories were his. He was cited for possession of marijuana, a violation. The case is being referred to the Department of Human Services.
Linn County Sheriff
A couple of boobs - Two women got into a fight in the parking lot of the Dixie Creek Saloon at 33000 Highway 99E in Tangent at about 10:35 Friday night after one allegedly remarked on the amount of money the other spent on a "boob job." The augmented woman allegedly punched the other woman. Deputies say the victim decided she did not want to press charges when she realized the whole thing was silly.
Flat tires - Someone called deputies Friday morning at 9:35 from the 28600 block of Jones Road saying five tires on two vehicles had been flattened during the past three weeks. Neighbors had also found nails near a mailbox. The former owner of the home, which had been foreclosed upon, is suspected. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
Car rolls - A young driver traveling west in a silver 1989 Toyota Camry on Fish Hatchery Drive just after 7 a.m. Friday reached to turn up the heat and drifted into the gravel on the shoulder. She told deputies she overcorrected and ended up swerving into the ditch on the other side of the road, rolling the car onto its side. The girl, 16, was OK. The only damage was to the car. No citations were issued.
