The Benton County Republican Women will present a forum on the Corvallis Bag Ban Ordinance at 7 p.m. Monday at the Comfort Suites, 1739 N.W. Ninth St.
Speakers are expected to attend from the Corvallis City Council, Donna Bella Lingerie and Voters for Effective Environmental Policy, which is a group that is gathering signatures in an effort to put the bag ban to a vote.
Those who attend are welcome to express their views on topic related to the bag ban, such as pro and cons of recycling, other uses for plastic bags, health issues, etc.
The ban on distribution of thin-ply plastic checkout bags went into effect Jan. 1 for businesses that have more than 50 employees. On July 1, it will go into effect at smaller businesses. Stores also are required to charge 5 cents for paper bags. Higher-end paper shopping bags, such as the gift-style bags used by the lingerie store, are prohibited under the ban.
