The Corvallis Police Department will hold a comment session for personnel and community members during its accreditation process this month, the agency announced.

The public session will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, in the main meeting room at the Corvallis-Benton County Library, 645 NW Monroe Avenue.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, an independent nonprofit that assesses law enforcement agencies internationally, will be evaluating the police department Dec. 10-13. The assessment is voluntary, and the department is seeking reaccreditation. According to the agency, it was first accredited through the commission in 1995 and has undergone six reaccreditation processes since then.

According to the accreditation commission, the Corvallis Police Department is one of two law enforcement agencies in Oregon accredited through the organization. The other is the Washington County Sheriff's Office in Hillsboro.

The purpose of the accreditation program is to improve the delivery of public safety services by maintaining a body of standards, establishing and administering an accreditation process and recognizing professional excellence, according to the organization.

Each evaluation conducted by the accreditation organization involves a team of out-of-state assessors, according to the organization.

Anyone unable to attend the public comment session is encouraged to call 541-766-6109 on Dec. 11 between 1 and 3 p.m. to provide feedback.

People who wish to provide written comments may write to The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155.

All comments must address the police department’s ability to comply with the accreditation standards. Anyone who wishes to view the standards should call Accreditation Manager Laurie Jackson at 541-766-6778.
