PacificSource, a nonprofit, Springfield-based health plan provider, is sponsoring a health promotion competition between Oregon State University and University of Oregon fans. The challenge runs through Saturday, the day of the Civil War football game.
For each day leading up to the game, Healthy Life Civil War Challenge participants can pledge to exercise at least 30 minutes, eat five servings of fruit and vegetables, refrain from using tobacco, get eight hours of sleep each night and practice relaxation exercises.
Participants can identify as a Duck or a Beaver fan when registering for the pledge. The university which receives the most pledges wins the Healthy Campus Civil War Challenge.
For each pledge, PacificSource will donate $1 to one of four charities of the participant’s choice: Linn-Benton Food Share, United Way of Benton and Lincoln County, Lane Coalition for Healthy and Active Youth or Eugene Family YMCA. They’ll donate up to $25,000 to each charity.
The program is part of PacificSource’s Healthy Life Initiative, aimed to improve overall health in Pacific Northwest communities.
Participants can take the pledge at www.healthylife
