Mid-Valley Health Care Advocates will present a free public forum on Measure 101 at 7 tonight at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave.

The initiative, which will appear on the Jan. 23 ballot, concerns several aspects of a health care financing package approved by the 2017 Legislature.

If Measure 101 passes, the financing package stays intact. If the measure fails, several elements of the package would be repealed, including a 1.5 percent tax on insurance premiums and a 0.7 percent tax on hospitals to help pay for the Oregon Health Plan, the state’s version of Medicaid.

Speakers will include state Rep. Dan Rayfield, D-Corvallis; Dr. Bruce Thomson, medical officer of the Benton County Health Department; and Janet Bauer of the Oregon Center for Public Policy.
