The Monroe School Board announced its top candidate to replace its retiring superintendent Wednesday.

According to a news release from the district, the top candidates are Matthew Henry, the principal of Siuslaw High School in Florence; Heitho Reuter, an adjunct professor at Western Oregon University; and Kyle Tucker, the assistant superintendent of the South Lane School District.

Randy Crowson, who has been superintendent in Monroe for nine years, will retire at the end of June.

The candidates were selected by a screening committee of staff and community members, who considered over 30 applications. According to the press release the field was narrowed to three through interviews, and preliminary background and reference checks.

The finalists have been invited to meet with district staff March 12. The school board will interview the candidates in executive session later in the day.

Matthew Henry

Currently, Henry is the Siuslaw High School principal in Florence, a school of 400 students where he has served since 2010. Previously, he was vice principal at the school for three years. Before Siuslaw, he was dean of students and assistant principal at Grant Union High School in John Day. Over a span of 17 years he was a social studies teacher at Madras High School, Payette High School, in Payette, Idaho., and Arlington High School, in Arlington, Ore. Henry has a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western Oregon University and a Bachelor of Science degree in history from Oregon State University.

Heitho Reuter

Reuter is an adjunct professor at Western Oregon University with a current emphasis on proficiency assessments, instruction, curriculum and classroom management. She also acts as a consultant working with the Oregon Support Team, Oregon State Appraisal Team and Lebanon Community Schools on a variety of literacy and assessment projects. In the past she served as director of school improvement for a Polk County Consortium of five school districts dedicated to development of professional learning communities for the districts. Reuter was Assistant Principal at North Albany Middle School for 8 years. Her prior community service includes 2 years as a school board member for Lebanon Community Schools. She has a Doctorate of Education degree in education leadership and a Master of Fine Arts degree, both from the University of Oregon.

Kyle Tucker

Tucker is currently serving as the assistant superintendent of the South Lane School District in Cottage Grove, a district with 3000 students. Previously, he was the Superintendent of Mapleton School District (250 students) in Mapleton, OR for 10 years. He also spent time as the middle school/high school principal at Mapleton before becoming superintendent. Tucker has a Master of Science in Secondary Education degree from Western Oregon a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education.
