June 11, 1925 - Aug. 15, 2008
June Eleanor Petek, 83, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 15, at her home from pancreatic cancer while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Helena, Mont., on June 11, 1925, to Mike and Stella Yuhas. On June 22, 1944, she married Andrew S. Petek in Blackstone, Va. Following his tour of duty with the Army, they returned to Montana. They moved to Alaska in 1959, residing in Anchorage and Palmer. While in Anchorage, June worked for many years as a secretary and proofreader for Color Art Printing.
Following her husband's death in 1990, she moved to Philomath.
June had a generous spirit and a great love of family and friends. She was an avid gardener, wonderful cook and a special lady with many artistic talents.
Her warmth, kindness and sense of humor gave a special touch to whatever she did.
Her home was a haven to many, her hospitality renowned! Ultimately, she was an extraordinary mother and friend who gave unconditional love to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew S. Petek; and brother Herman Mayer.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathie and Bud Beard of Philomath, and Connie and Randy Hendrix of Eugene; her brother, Melvin Yuhas of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren, Candi, Ginger, Angie and Rob; three step- grandchildren, Justin, Wade and Rebekah; and 20 great-grandchildren!
A "Celebration of Life" picnic will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22, in the Avery Park Rose Garden, Corvallis. Those touched by June's life are welcome and encouraged to attend.
