Betty Jo Harvey died Monday, March 23, at the Corvallis Manor. She was 65. Betty Jo was born in Shreveport, La. and grew up in Marthasville, La. She was raised by her grandparents, Tallie and Lillie Barnhill. In 1984, she came to Oregon and settled in Corvallis. Here she lived with her mother and stepfather, Laverne and Ingles "Tommy" Thompson. Betty Jo was full of life and despite her lifelong struggles with disabilities issues always found the positives in every situation. An example was her 1968 Oldsmobile 98. She would drive this huge car as if it were a little go-cart. She was a loyal Oregon State University Beaver fan and was always infatuated with babies and butterflies. She also loved French fries and soda pop - first drinking Diet Rite, then Tab and recently Caffeine-Free Diet Coke.

She is survived by a special aunt, Joann Barnhill, and special cousin, Donna Hathaway, along with many other aunts, uncles and cousins. Also, her long-time friend and guardian, Connie Herbert.

From 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon, March 26, friends are invited to McHenry Funeral Home for a final time to say goodbye. On Friday, March 27, Betty Jo will be laid to rest privately at Oak Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Corvallis Manor Residents Council in care of the McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330.
