Vera Evelyn Casteel, 79, of Corvallis died Saturday, Sept. 29.

Vera was born in Falls City to George and Zella Pack. She was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Falls City High School.

She married J.W. “Jay” Casteel, her high school sweetheart, on Nov. 8, 1950, in Falls City. He preceded her in death.

She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses along with her husband in 1960 in California. They were active in the Corvallis congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1964.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed writing poetry and art work. She was a full-time volunteer Bible teacher of Jehovah’s Witnesses beginning in 1973 until her death — almost 39 years.

Survivors include daughter Sandra C. Corden of Jefferson, son Daniel J. Casteel of Albany and brother Lawrence Pack.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1330 S.W. 35th St., in Corvallis.
